Pumpecapple

This year I heard and learned more about turnduckins then I ever cared to.

BUT

A Pumpercapple Piecake?

That is a whole other story.

You might ask:
What is a Piecake?  Well it is a pie that is baked inside a cake.

What is a Pumpecapple?
The Pumpecapple piecake consists of the following scratch pies, cake and icing from bottom to top (feel free to change the order):

Pumpkin Pie baked in a pumpkin spice cake
Filled with crème cheese icing

Pecan Pie (or chocolate pecan pie) baked in chocolate cake
Filled with crème cheese icing

Apple pie baked in our spice cake
Iced all over with our crème cheese icing

Garnished with pecan pieces And topped with a generous drizzle of carmel.

And it is calorie free! Well, not maybe not.  A serving size is 2,000 calories...

Sadly this is not a local treat!  Check out http://3brothersbakery.com/

Cherry Mistmas!

Tequila Christmas Cake

Ingredients:
1 cup of water
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup of sugar
1 tsp salt
1 cup of brown sugar
Lemon juice
4 large eggs
Nuts
1 bottle tequila
2 cups of dried fruit

Sample the tequila to check quality. Take a large bowl, check the tequila again. To be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink. Repeat. Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar. Beat again. At this point it's best to make sure the tequila is still OK. Try another cup...just in case. Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit. Pick the frigging fruit up off floor. Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers just pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the tequila to check for tonsisticity. Next, sift two cups of salt. Or something. Check the tequila. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find. Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don't forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through the window. Finish the tequila and wipe counter with the cat.

Running Shoes On

I have never understood running.

But, I do like shoes.

While on a recent flight I took the time to read the inflight magazine and came across some very cool running shoes that I thought were worth a second look.

SKORA Running shoes are made in such a way that the center of your foot does the work and not your heel.  The goal is to give as close to a natural stride as possible.

Plus they are pretty cute.

 So here are the reasons:

And here is some technical stuff about them.

I especially like the side laces, totally brilliant.

And here is a cuter picture of them.

And here is some more running stuff for the runners out there!

Picture Perfect

Thanksgiving is done and the holiday season has officially begun!

Inspiration comes in many forms this year.  A delightful blog post by Cathy of Pear Tree Greetings gives the top tips when taking your holiday photo this year.

Clothing:
Light Colors
Left photo by: Ashlee Raubach; Right photo by: Ashlee Raubach
When the whole family is wearing light colors, it focuses attention on the darker colors in the photo, such as facial features, hair color, or the beautiful scenery in the background. We like a mix of light colors, which looks more natural than everyone wearing the same color.

Dark Colors
The dark colors this family is wearing make them stand out against the lighter sky and field. The dark blue color solidly grounds them and gives them the appearance of a tight unit, which is a nice subliminal message for a family photo.

Bright & Casual
The playful poses of the kids match the playful colors in this photo, and help the kids stand out against the gorgeous fall colors in the background. Letting the kids wear something they’re comfortable in can also make the photo shoot go a little more smoothly.

Backgrounds:
Stark

A background without a lot of color, such as a snowy landscape, monochromatic field, or an urban setting, will keep the focus on you and your family. Even subtle colors will pop, like they’re hand-painted onto the photo (as in the winter scene at left) while dressing everyone in bright colors (like the other two photos) can make a completely different statement.

Colorful
A brightly colored background can give your photo a ton of attitude, but it might call for simple, black and white clothes so the family members stand out. In this example, we notice Mom, Dad, and son first and then realize, with a smile, that their daughter blends right in with the fun surroundings!

Matching
Image: Tis the Season to Sketch Horizontal Christmas Cards
If you love the color of a certain Christmas card, have one or more people in the family wear something in that color, even something as small as a hair bow. That way, it looks like the photo and the card were meant for each other.

Creating Contrast for black & white photos

If you plan to make your photo black and white, creating contrast between light and dark colors will make it more interesting. Light colors, whether clothing, faces or background objects, will stand out the most. To draw attention to the faces in your photo, wear clothing that’s darker than your skin tone. Keep white clothes to a minimum, and avoid dressing everyone in mid-range colors which all turn to gray.
Now that you know you are ready for the
perfect picture this holiday!

A Pie to Try

As the menu for this Thanksgiving continues to grow, homemade pie has now been added to the list.

I have NEVER made a pie before but this recipe from allrecipes.com has rave reviews.

No pie is complete without a personal touch.  Thankfully Style Me Pretty and Pinterest stepped up with the perfect pin.

Not sure which design I like best, but this inspiration is surely making my mouth water with ideas!

In One Hour

Wikipedia is the go to for quick information about ANYTHING.

And now they are asking for help.  They want me and you and everyone who has helped make it the #5 site in the world to donate.

"If everyone reading this gave $5, our fundraiser would be done within an hour. Please help us forget fundraising and get back to Wikipedia."

So take a minute and give, because you use wikipedia, because you found and extra $5 in your pants, because it is that time of year or because you know it is the right thing to do.

Private Pinning

To my delight Friday morning, Pinterest sent me a note that started my day off right!

SECRET BOARDS!!!

I have personally been emailing anything I didn't want the world to follow on my boards and this was JUST what I wanted and needed.

Here is the best part of the note:

Today, we’re excited to continue this tradition with a new feature we hope will make Pinterest even better—secret boards. Secret boards give you a place for things you’re not quite ready to share yet, like a surprise party, special gift ideas, or even planning for a new baby. We’re testing out the feature by giving everyone 3 secret boards. You’ll find them at the bottom of your profile. We can’t wait to hear what you think!
On behalf of our team here at Pinterest, thanks so much for pinning, inviting your friends, and sending us ideas for how we can improve. Most of all, thanks for sharing your inspirations. With your help, we’ll make Pinterest a little better every day.
—Ben & the Pinterest Team

Mine are set and going, even though you will never seem them!
Here are just a few of my public boards.

Perrier-Jouët Belle Époque Florale

As Seen on Julib:

Perrier-Jouët has unvelied the Perrier-Jouët Belle Époque Florale Edition by Mokoto Azuma - the first limited edition design of cuvée Belle Époque since the creation of its iconic anemone bottle by Emile Galle. The renowned Japanese floral artist created the unique bottle with a single delicate botanical arabesque dotted with white Japanese anemones - the original flower chosen by Gallé. In Mokoto's version, the flowers are suspended in a three-dimensional frame where the composition of white, green and yellow take inspiration from the sensation of champagne inside the mouth and the delicate movement of ivy and leaves. Of course, his tribute to Gallé's anemones revives history and connects a glorious past to a gorgeous present.

The artist spent months in his floral studio studying the bottle and flowers to create the perfect scene. The result breathes new life to the brand and iconic look of Perrier-Jouët Belle.

Looking Forward

You can’t connect the dots looking forward, you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever – because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow you heart even when it leads you off the well-worn path, and that will make all the difference.
